Where else can you find a part-time job that makes you feel so good?

Introduction:       PEACE is a Christian oriented student exchange program established in 1988. We are currently hiring and training more U.S. reps to assist in the placement of Latin American exchange students with local host families

Responsibilities:

This job consists of the following duties:

interviewing and evaluating prospective host families in the homes where our exchange students would be living for the next full academic year; preset interviews are mostly conducted on evenings or weekends.

  • assisting with our outreach program by visiting schools and churches (as scheduling permits) to promote the program.
  • publicizing our need for host families within your own community by networking through local resources.
  • strengthening the program's support services by being a friend, advocate and counselor to students and families in your students and families in your immediate area and providing monitoring between the student  and the home office.
  • helping other representatives organize regional activities for students.
  • expanding and building our outbound program to place U.S. high school students in Latin American schools.

Compensation: Representatives are paid for all interviews (whether or not they result in an actual placement), for successful recruiting and for school presentations. Training and all materials and supplies are free. Compensation is made for mileage and telephone calls.  Checks are issued for the pay week following the date the paperwork reaches the home office and is sent directly to our accountant.

Keeping in Touch: Representatives need either an e-mail address or a fax number to facilitate the quickest possible communication between them and the home office.  Forms are readable in Adobe  Acrobat, if you don't have it, you can get it free.   To download it to your computer, just click here ...

Qualifications:

Enthusiasm and a sincere interest in helping to fulfill goals are characteristic of our most successful representatives.  Being able to feel at ease and to establish a good rapport with people is another common bond they all share.

Other than that, our representatives come from all walks of life.  Certainly people who have formerly hosted exchange students from ours or another program can bring an extra dimension of understanding to the job.  We also encourage former exchange students to apply.

Sales or marketing experience may be an advantage - especially for those who've had the experience of promoting concepts and ideas rather than products.

Active or retired educators counselors do well in this job and those recently separated from a military career who are skilled in teaching and training techniques also find some cross-over similarities.

Many of our most effective representatives might consider themselves soccer mom/homemakers who are very active in community volunteer work for schools, sports, churches and clubs.

A background in social work, counseling or the clergy - or even some experience with non- profit organizations - can also be helpful.

Some fluency in Spanish or Portuguese is useful but not required.

Regardless of peoples' ages or occupations, we at PEACE can't overemphasize the importance of a candidate's interpersonal skills and a strong motivation to help further PEACE's mission as the most important factors in our selection process.

Service Areas::  Territories will usually include the representative's own county and travel within about a twenty to fifty mile radius of home, depending more or less  upon our coverage needs.  PEACE is the only foreign exchange student program with its international headquarters in Pennsylvania and most of our placements are made within the state.

There's also a need for representatives who live in or can travel to the border areas of adjacent states where we also  place students.  Therefore, a valid driver's license and reliable transportation are necessary to this job.
